(Names in this post have been changed to protect the somewhat innocent)
So I got a flat tire this weekend. I was nearly home, about 10 blocks away, but could go no further so I pulled into the DI parking lot. Now I am very capable of changing a flat tire. I DO know how to do it, and have done it several times. But my car is a BEAST and it is impossible to change it by myself. So I called Roommate #1 for help. She did not answer the home phone or her cell phone. So I called Roommate #2. She answered and this is the conversation we had:
#2: Hi.
Me: Hi. Where are you right now?
#2: I am at home. What's up?
Me: I have a flat tire and can't change it by myself. Can you come pick me up? (My intention was to go home and find a neighbor or someone to bring me back and help me).
#2: Ummmm. I am waiting to be picked up by someone to go somewhere. Sorry.
Me: Is #1 still sleeping?
#2: Hold on let me see. Yep. She's still sleeping. Sorry.
Me: Uhhhh... Could you wake her up?
#2: Ummmm. Well. Umm.....hmmmm.....
Me: For the love! Tell her it's an emergency. She won't care.
#2's voice mumbled: Ummm. Emily has a flat tire. She is in the DI parking lot and needs help.
#1's voice mumbled: Oh ok. Tell her I'll be right there.
#2: #1 is on her way she will help you.
I was shocked at the way the conversation went. But at least Roommate #1 was on her way to save the day. So she gets to the DI parking lot and we try to change the tire. Apparently there's some kind of trick to get my spare tire out so I am trying to figure that out and she is trying to loosen the lug nuts. I can't figure out the spare tire and she can't loosen the lug nuts so we switch jobs. Again, I can't loosen the lug nuts and she can't get the spare tire out. (Add whatever explisitive you would choose here.) So she calls her dad and he says he is coming. I pull out the instructions manual and together we figure out the spare tire. At this time two nice men show up and ask if we need help. We gladly accept their help and bless their hearts they did the whole thing! 15 mins. later I was in the car driving home with my flat tire that had a piece of metal stuck in it that looked like a Ninja Star. While driving I was thinking how grateful I am for people who see someone in need and immediately jump at the chance to help. And from now on I will not call #2 and ask for help!

Boo #2! Emily, you know I would've driven down there to help you. Next time call me!
Of course it helps if you have a good lug nut loosener thingy. I have one question: when you realized that you had a flat tire, were you wearing any strange hats?
Umm...I'd watch out for roommate #2, I have a feeling she was the one that threw the Ninja Star in the first place..
Em,
Funny how the littlest things communicate the strongest message! My worst nightmare is getting a flat tire and not knowing what to do. My knowledge stops at "left loosey, righty tighty" :)
PS -- lets ride bikes!
Em, you can call me, too. I'll always be your big brother in Provo, even though we see eachother like once every year now. And you KNOW that I'm very good at changing tires. :)
Do you have my cell?
I was just going to say that you needed a good lug nut loosener thingy but Garnet and Marc beat me to the punch! Dang...I've got to be quicker on these things. I'm loving your blog, Em. I'm so glad you joined the club.
